Pietro Carlotti
I am a third-year PhD student in the Department of Statistics and Data Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin, expecting to graduate in summer 2028. I have worked with Professors Layla Parast, Arya Farahi, and Yuling Yao. My research lies at the intersection of statistics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, including topics such as:
- computational methods for probabilistic inference;
- uncertainty quantification and calibration in machine learning;
- causal inference.
I am currently seeking internships in machine learning and data science, starting in May 2027. Previously, I interned at Berry Consultants as a Statistical Scientist, where I worked on the design and analysis of Bayesian adaptive clinical trials. I also interned at the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance as a Research Analyst, using e-invoicing data to study economic activity and tax compliance.
Before moving to Austin, I earned my master’s degree in Economic and Social Sciences at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. At Bocconi, I wrote my master’s thesis on Bayesian nonparametric methods for financial time series clustering under the supervision of Professor Antonio Lijoi at the Bocconi Institute for Data Science and Analytics. Earlier, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy.
